KLM
KLM was founded on October 7, 1919, making it the oldest airline in the world still operating under its original name. The company embodies Dutch excellence by offering a warm, authentic service that respects the cultural diversity of its passengers.
KLM and KLM Cityhopper form the core of the KLM Group, carrying more than 34 million passengers and near 400,000 tons of cargo per year through an extensive network of 72 European destinations and 99 intercontinental destinations. As a member of the SkyTeam alliance, KLM provides expanded access to over 1,000 destinations in over 170 countries.
Since its merger with Air France in 2004, KLM has pursued an integrated model based on three key activities: passenger transport, cargo, and aircraft maintenance. The company is committed to sustainable growth, strategic development at Schiphol Airport, and a responsible aviation industry worldwide.
In 2024, the airline completed the introduction of its new Premium Comfort Class, the biggest product change in years, now available across its entire Boeing 777 and 787 fleet.
Since summer 2024, the airline has been renewing its fleet with the arrival of its first Airbus A321neos, which are quieter and more fuel-efficient than previous generation aircraft.
Launch of “Travel Well”, a new brand platform focused on the quality of the travel experience and a refreshed visual identity.
Since summer 2024, World Business Class passengers have been able to pre-select their main course up to 45 days before departure. This service, already adopted by more than 10,000 travelers, has been very well received and will be further expanded.
- KLM’s medium-haul network experienced significant growth in 2024.
A constantly evolving airline
Fuel savings: In 2024, KLM conducted tests to optimize the center of gravity of its aircraft by adjusting cargo placement toward the rear of the plane, resulting in a more aerodynamic flight profile. This adjustment reduces drag and improves energy efficiency.
Development of intermodality: In 2024, KLM and Air France inaugurated the new Air&Rail terminal at Brussels-South railway station, strengthening the airlines’ shared commitment to sustainable mobility.
Deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) to combat food waste: AI programs enable the airline to better predict how many ticketed passengers will actually board a flight. Annually, this results in savings of over 100,000 kg of food.
- Long-term solidarity and cultural engagement: KLM has its own charitable organization, “Wings of Support”, founded by KLM and Martinair staff, which manages projects providing shelter, education, and medical care to underprivileged children worldwide.
KLM received the “APEX World Class 2024” award as the best airline for passengers.
- As part of the SkyTeam Sustainable Flight Challenge 2024, KLM was awarded for “Best Adoption”.
