Fortaleza, a new hub for Air France-KLM and GOL

In addition to inaugurating two new transatlantic routes, Air France-KLM and its Brazilian partner GOL are launching a new strategic hub in Fortaleza.

This new hub offers Air France, KLM, Joon and GOL customers simplified connections, a single check-in and a shorter travelling time from Europe to 6 destinations in North-East Brazil such as Belém, Brasilia, Manaus, Natal, Recife and Salvador.

In total, Air France-KLM and GOL customers benefit from an optimized network with 104 European destinations and 50 destinations in Brazil.

Today, Air France-KLM is confirming its development strategy in Brazil. For the first time we are simultaneously inaugurating two new routes between Europe and Fortaleza along with a new strategic hub with our partner GOL. With this new hub, we can offer our customers a wider choice of connections to North-East Brazil, making our customers’ trips faster and easier”, said Jean-Marc Janaillac, Chairman and CEO of Air France-KLM.

Pieter Elbers, President and CEO of KLM, added: “Fortaleza is the third destination in Brazil to which KLM operates a direct service. This strengthens KLM’s position as the most important European carrier operating in the Brazilian market, for both business travel and leisure. In addition to daily services to Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, this thrice weekly service to Fortaleza brings to 17 KLM’s total weekly frequency to Brazil. Fortaleza is strategically placed as an entry point to Europe and important regions in Brazil. The partnership with GOL opens up a new strategic hub, which cements the connection between Amsterdam and Brazil. KLM already served 24 destinations in Brazil in a codeshare with GOL on flights departing from Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. With all the other expansions in South America over the last few years, this marks an important step in KLM and AFKL’s strategy in South America.”

"We are going to improve our network in Fortaleza to provide fast and efficient connections with Air France and KLM flights. We will adjust the schedules and increase the offer to Recife, Salvador, Belém and Manaus, as well as a new route to Natal and we will offer clients traveling from the north and northeast to Europe, or for those who come to visit Brazil, an experience with several benefits at every stage of the trip", explained Paulo Kakinoff, President of GOL. “This is another important step we take in our strategic partnership, which has been in place for three years", he added.
