At the 2017 Dubai Air show on until 16th November, Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance announced that it has signed several maintenance contracts, with the companies Gulf Air, Kuwait Airways, Air Arabia and Saudia.
Gulf Air, the Kingdom of Bahrain’s national carrier, has entrusted maintenance of its APS5000 auxiliary power units (APU) equipping the airline’s 10 new, incoming, Boeing 787-9 to AFI KLM E&M. This long-term contract includes a guarantee covering APU replacement. The repair services will be provided by AFI KLM E&M subsidiary EPCOR, global market leader for MRO support for APUs.
This latest contract marks the renewal of Gulf Air’s trust in the AFI KLM E&M network. The collaboration between the two companies started several years ago with the repair of Gulf Air’s CFM56 engines, and the airline currently uses AFI KLM E&M services for component support on its existing fleet of A320 and A330s, and those of its Dubai-based AMES subsidiary for nacelle and radome repairs. EPCOR, for its part, has provided APU support for the Bahraini carrier’s Airbus A330 for a number of years.
Kuwait Airways, the national carrier of the State of Kuwait, is entrusting maintenance of its fleet of GE90-115B engines to AFI KLM E&M under a support by the hour contract covering engine removal management, shop visits, logistics/AOG support. These engines equip the ten Boeing 777-300ER aircraft recently integrated into the Kuwait Airways fleet.
AFI KLM E&M has dual operational and technical expertise on GE90 family powerplants, from the operational support provided for Air France and KLM, launch airlines for the 777-300ER in particular, to services provided for dozens of third-party airlines operating versions of the GE90 worldwide.
Saudia Aerospace Engineering Industries, Saudi Airline’s MRO, is also calling on AFI KLM E&M’s 787 expertise for full component support for a fleet of Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Operated by Saudi Airlines, this fleet will ultimately comprise 21 Dreamliners. AFI KLM E&M will provide component maintenance and repair services, along with the related logistics, and access to its spares pools in Europe, Asia and the Americas.
AFI KLM E&M is also strengthening its partnership with Air Arabia, the Middle East and North Africa’s
first and largest low-cost carrier, with the signature of a long-term, full engine support contract for its growing Airbus A320 fleet. The contract covers engine maintenance of Air Arabia’s current fleet of 50 A320 aircraft, and the maintenance of aircraft of the same type which will be joining the fleet shortly. The new contract covers the full array of Air Arabia’s fleet requirements, from shop visits to worldwide on-wing support, as well as spares supplies. Real-time engine monitoring will also be on offer via the Prognos® for Engine predictive maintenance solution developed by AFI KLM E&M at its innovation platform, The MRO Lab.
This agreement strengthens the carrier’s existing partnership as AFI KLM E&M provides airframe support to Air Arabia via its specialized Moroccan joint venture, Aerotechnic Industries (ATI).
