On 19 June 2015, at the Paris Air Show at Le Bourget, Air France is announcing its intention to work together with Thales on the development of a newElectronic Flight Bag (EFB) application suite, with the aim of eventually equipping its entire fleet.
Air France will actively work on the development of this software: several pilots and engineers from the company will put their expertise, recognized worldwide, and their experience in developing mobile applications at the service of Thales for the design of this new EFB solution.
This application suite, integrated into the global offering TopWings marketed by Thales, is a revolutionary new "digital assistant" for pilots which ensures them fully digitised access to all information required for their entire mission, in real time.
It will provide particularly easy access to activity schedules, regulatory alerts (medical checks, passport renewal, etc.) and operational documentation. It accompanies pilots throughout their mission by allowing them to prepare their flight (the electronic flight folder contains dynamic weather information) and ensure the best possible situational awareness. In this way they will be better connected to their operational environment and the company. The improvements provided on an operational level will also give rise to substantial cost savings.
On this occasion, Alexandre de Juniac, Chairman and CEO of Air France-KLM, declared: “It is a great honour for Air France to contribute to the development of a new reference tool in the global air transport industry. The expertise of our company’s pilots and engineers was paramount in the definition of this new solution which will be developed in partnership with Thales. Today, the entire Air France-KLM group has expressed strong interest in this new product.”
